Talk Hard
by Karen Black, 6/15/98
Say thank you
you tell me
like I'm a five-year-old
Thank you for what?
I ask
For raising you right
For giving you all that we had
you say
But all you ever had
were chains
bloody chains
I protest
and they hurt
One day you'll thank me
you insist
Maybe
or maybe one day
I'll curse you
I say--
but I only say it
silently
because the chains
hold me back
